If it isn't claimed in a certain amount of time, the finder can keep it. If it is claimed, the finder gets a part of it as a reward. (The person claiming whatever was lost must describe what, where and when, etc., he lost.) This week a man had 35,000 (yes, 35,000) Euros in cash in an envelope. He was planning on buying a car and wanted to test drive it. It was a convertible and he put the top down. Well, the money in the envelope slipped out of the seat pocket and flew all over the autobahn, which had to be closed for an hour while the man and the police gathered up the money. They got most of it, but several thousand are waiting in the bushes between the lanes for the cleaning crews to find....... Here in Germany are supposed to take it to the police station.
